UNITE would like to thank Dr. Jarbas Barbosa, Director at the Pan-American Health Organization (PAHO), and his team, for welcoming us at their offices in Washington D.C., last week.
During our meeting, Dr. Barbosa reiterated the crucial role Parliamentarians are called to play next month, at the 78th World Health Assembly, where an unprecedented Pandemic Agreement will be voted and later ratified by each Member State. Parliamentarians must be informed and capacitated to be involved in such procedures, and UNITE is ready to provide that support, in collaboration with the World Health Organization (WHO) and its Regional Offices.
Dr. Ricardo Baptista Leite, UNITE’s Founder & President, highlighted how UNITE’s membership in the Americas has shown undivided support for WHO, and how it intends to remain highly participative and engaged with PAHO and WHO’s initiatives. After this meeting, both organizations have a renewed spirit of collaboration, which will continue more concretely during the upcoming months.
If you are an active Member of Parliament, we ask you to #JoinYourDelegation at the upcoming 78th WHA. UNITE can provide further support in formalizing a request to your Minister of Health or Parliament President/Speaker. Please reach out to the UNITE Secretariat if you are interested, at unitenetwork@unitenetwork.org.
