UHC event in Morocco

UNITE, represented by its Chapter Chair for the Middle East and North Africa, Hon. Ibtissame Azzaoui held a virtual roundtable discussion with current and former parliamentarians of Morocco on Universal Health Coverage and Key Populations: Addressing the needs of people who use drugs.

The meeting featured presentations on UNITE’s activities and strategy for the upcoming years by Hon. Ricardo Baptista Leite, and assessments of universal health coverage and harm reduction by the Parliamentarians in attendance, local and international experts, civil society and the UNITE Secretariat.

The discussion covered Morocco’s achievements in implementing the UHC framework and expanding social protections, as well as legislative changes to mitigate discrimination, stigma and inequalities, and measures needed to ensure access to quality essential health-care services, highlighting the importance of civil society, communities, and Parliamentarians working together in partnership.
