World Hepatitis Testing Week

The first ever World Hepatitis Testing Week was launched this November 18th. During this time, the aim was to not only raising awareness of hepatitis and how hepatitis testing is far behind where it should be globally.

During World Hepatitis Testing Week 2024, UNITE members took a proactive role in advocating for increased hepatitis testing to combat the global health threat posed by hepatitis B and C. This initiative is critical as it aims to prevent the spread of hepatitis, especially mother-to-child transmission, and address the challenges in testing access.

Hon. Fauzia Khan, UNITE Member from India

Hon. Fauzia Khan, a Member of Parliament from India, also contributed as a speaker during the “NOhep Mums webinar on ending vertical transmission of hepatitis B”

Hon. Fauzia discussed the role of testing in antenatal settings, sharing how India’s National Viral Hepatitis Control Program has integrated hepatitis B screening into antenatal care services. Hon. Fauzia also emphasized the importance of this initiative in preventing the transmission of hepatitis B from mother to child, which is crucial for eliminating the virus in future generations.

Hon. Pastor Vera Bejarano, UNITE Member from Paraguay

Hon. Pastor Vera Bejarano, a UNITE Member from Paraguay, also shared his support for increasing testing rates to eliminate hepatitis. He noted, “The virus is the second deadliest in the world. Hon. Orjola Pampuri, UNITE Member from Albania highlighted the importance of regular testing, especially for individuals at higher risk. Orjola emphasized, “Protect your health.
