Domestic financing for equitable health rights is of paramount importance to achieve the Sustainable Developments Goals by 2030. To stimulate discussion and awareness in this regard, UNITE in partnership with The Global Fund, organized two roundtables to discuss the role of parliamentarians in increasing domestic financing for health, both in the Africa and Asia-Pacific regions.
Both events were held virtually and counted with the presence of parliamentarians and policymakers from India, Nepal and 7 African countries, as well as representatives from The Global Fund and the WHO Liaison Office to the African Union.
Discussions centred around the challenges that governments face for domestic financing for health, capacity building for parliamentarians to advocate for increased budget allocation to health and understanding the impact of the work done by the Global Fund in the respective regions.
