UNITE held a special session at the World Health Summit, last October

It’s Time to UNITE!

Last October in Berlin, during World Health Summit, a call was made to unite all relevant stakeholders for the elimination of infectious diseases as a global health threat. And that call was answered!

UNITE organised a special session around political leadership for global health which included the then UNAIDS Executive Director a.i., Ms Gunilla Carlsson, as the keynote speaker. She told the audience that political will is the driving force that should not be removed from the equation if we want to achieve the UN 2030 Sustainable Development targets.

The only session focusing on political leadership and with elected officials, the discussion gathered +350 participants in the audience and was moderated by UNITE’s President, Ricardo Baptista Leite. The session had as speakers UNITE’s Chapter Chair for Eastern & Southern Africa, Christine Goffinet, Professor at the Berlin Institute of Health; Alan Donelly, Convener of the G20 Health & Development Partnership and Jaak Peters, Global Head, Global Public Health, Johnson & Johnson.
