Gisela Scaglia is a Member of Parliament in Argentina. A Professor of Political Science at the University of Entre Ríos, Scaglia also sits on the Education Portfolio Committee, Welfare State Committee, and the Family, Women and Children Committee. Scaglia previously oversaw the Social Department of the Buenos Aires City Government from 2008 to 2011, prior to her election to the Parliament in 2013. She is one of the most well-known politicians in the country.

Daniel Scioli is the former Vice-President of Argentina (2002-2007) and former Governor of Buenos Aires (2007-2015). In 2015, Daniel Scioli ran for the Presidency of Argentina, which he ended up in second place. He is one of the most seasoned politicians in Argentina and a well-known face in Argentinean Politics, Sports and Business.

MARIA LOURDES LANDIVAR TUFIÑO | BOLIVIA Maria Lourdes is a former National Senator in Bolivia (2015-2020) and former Secretary of Political Training for Santa Cruz de la Sierra of Demócratas, the main political opposition force in Bolivia. Lourdes is also the Former Vice Chairwoman of the International Young Democrat Union (IYDU), a global alliance of centre-right political youth organisations with 127 members from more than 81 different nations. She was elected as a one of the Fellows of 2018 of the prestigious Millennium Fellowship Program of the Atlantic Council, an American think tank in the field of international affairs.

Alexandre Padilha is a Brazilian Federal Deputy for the State of São Paulo. Padilha graduated in Medicine from the Universidade de Campinas (UNICAMP) and has served as Medicine Secretary of São Paulo for the Ministry of Health under Dilma’s Rousseff government.

Jandira Feghali is a Member of Parliament from the Chamber of Deputies. With a background in medicine, Feghali is the Minority Leader in the Chamber. Elected from Rio de Janeiro, Feghali was also former Secretary of Culture. Feghali is responsible for leading several bills within the chamber that empower women’s rights and has advocated for a legal and de facto gender equality in Brazil. Jandira Feghali was also the Deputy-Chair of the Parliamentary Group on Health.

Jorge Solla is an elected member of the Brazilian Chamber of Deputies. A medical-doctor, Solla was ranked as the 31st most active and important parliamentarians in the Brazilian Chamber of Deputies. A former Health Secretary for the State of Bahia and Vitória da Conquista, he was responsible for fostering healthcare services through active management of the regional health systems. He is also a University Lecturer with a PhD from the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro and holds a master degree in Public Health.

Benedita Silva is an elected member of the Brazilian Chamber of Deputies. Before becoming Member of Parliament, Silva served as Governor of Rio de Janeiro for one year and Vice-Governor for three years. The first female and Afro-Brazilian Senator of Rio (elected in 1995), Silva comes from a humble background and has thrived to become a strong voice in the defense of minorities and low-income classes in Brazil. She was also the Minister of Social Action from 2003 to 2007.

Zacharias Calil Hamu is a current Member of the Chamber of Deputies of Brazil. A trained physician, specialised in pediatric surgery, Hamu is known for completing a series of delicate surgeries at the Hospital Goiânia, Brazil. Hamu currently sits on the Social Welfare and Family Committee and is a member of the Permanent Commission for Policies for First Childhood.

Eduardo Costa is a Brazilian politician who currently serves as a Member of the Chamber of Deputies in Brazil. Costa has a background in medicine and was previously elected as State Deputy (2014) and later as Federal Deputy (2018) for the State of Pará. With experience as a local legislator in state-level politics, Costa participated in the Assembly of Alepa where he chaired the committee that investigated the Zika virus in Pará. As a Brazilian federal legislator, Costa currently sits on the Social Security and Family Committee.

Valdir Cobalchini is a veteran and fourth term State Representative for the State of Santa Catarina. Cobalchini began his political career in Brasília, where he served in the army and later became an adviser to the former Federal Deputy, Casildo Maldaner. Amongst his political commitments, Cobalchini additionally holds the position of Chairman of the Tourism and Environment Committee.

Jorge Ortiz is a Member of Parliament in Cuba. One of the youngest parliamentarians, Ortiz is the Vice-President of the ‘Popular Council’ – the body with the highest authority to implement reforms and policies in the country. With this power, Ortiz has advocated with grassroots movements for a raise of awareness for several topics including climate change and the country’s foreign policy.

Gael Yeomans is a member of the Chilean Parliament politician elected by the 13th electoral district. In 2017, Yeomans was one of the founders of “Frente Amplio” – a Chilean political coalition – and is the current President of the Convergencia Social party. Gael holds a law degree from the University of Chile.

Senator Guido Girardi is a physician and politician in the Senate of Chile for the Partido por la Democracia. Senator Girardi is a long time and dedicated advocate for healthcare and health policy. Girardi is the main author of Chile’s National Drug Act and is current President of the Health and the Future Challenges, Science, Technology and Innovation Commissions of the Senate.

Patricía Mercado is one of the most well-known politicians in Mexico. An economist by training, Mercado is a current Senator and previous Secretary to the Government of Mexico and Presidential Candidate for the 2006 elections. Mercado is one of the strongest voices in the country for women’s rights, gender equality and the legalisation of cannabis. As Senator, she sits on the Health, Social Security, and Rights of Children and Adolescents Committees.

Gabriela Cuevas Barron


Gabriela Cuevas Barron is a Member of Parliament at the Mexican Congress and Honorary President of the Inter-Parliamentary Union.

Gabriela Cuevas Barron was elected Mayor of the Miguel Hidalgo Delegation becoming the only woman in charge of a demarcation during that period. She also chaired the Foreign Relations Commission when she served as Senator of the Republic. Ms. Cuevas has also collaborated in the Euro-Lat Parliamentary Assembly proposing resolutions about migration, development, and economic crisis. Furthermore, she writes in El Universal newspaper, as well as in Expansión. She has also made contributions to both national and international media outlets. She has been actively involved in UN initiatives. Ms. Cuevas is also a member of the UHC Movement Political Advisory Panel to UHC2030.

In addition, she is a Member of the High-Level Steering Group of Every Woman, Every Child. She is also part of the Champions Network for the 2021 UN Food Systems Summit, as well as Co-Chair of the Lancet COVID-19 Commission’s Task Force on Humanitarian Relief, Social Protection, and Vulnerable Groups. She is also a member of the Task Force on Global Health Diplomacy and Cooperation, and the Regional Task Force for Latin America.

The principles that have guided her efforts have been transparency, citizen participation, combating corruption and protection of human rights, that lead her to a Recognition for Innovations in Transparency from the Institute of Access to Public Information of Mexico City & been decorated with the grade of Chevalier de la Légion d’Honneur by the Government of France in 2017.

In 2017, Gabriela Cuevas Barron became the youngest and the second woman to be President of IPU.

Lenin Lainez is a current Deputy to Honduras, where he is the youngest elected Deputy at only age 25.
